Wolverhampton 0 x 1 Tottenham: Spurs finally win in 2026, but remain in the relegation zone

Premier League | Molineux Stadium | 25 April 2026

Tottenham did what they had to — but it still wasn’t enough.

With a late goal, Spurs beat already-relegated Wolverhampton 1–0 away from home and secured their first Premier League win of 2026. The result keeps their survival hopes alive, but other results mean they remain in the relegation zone.

Possession without penetration

The first half was a clear reflection of Tottenham’s attacking struggles.

Despite having around 70% possession, Spurs controlled territory but failed to turn that dominance into real chances. They managed 5 shots before the break — none on target.

Wolverhampton, meanwhile, offered very little going forward. With just 2 shots and none on target, they were comfortable sitting deeper and playing without the ball.

Plenty of possession, but little cutting edge in the final third.

Tottenham lacked tempo, movement between the lines, and the ability to turn possession into real attacking threat.

Pressure, persistence and the breakthrough

The second half brought a shift in momentum.

Tottenham returned with more intent, pushing higher and spending longer spells in the attacking half. In the 51st minute, Xavi Simons had a good chance after cutting inside, but fired over. Soon after, at 68 minutes, Bentancur forced a strong save from José Sá with a header from a corner.

The pressure was building.

In the 79th minute, the goal seemed inevitable: a perfect cross found Richarlison, but Doherty produced a crucial interception to deny what looked like a certain opener.

Persistence finally paid off in the 81st minute.

Following a corner, the ball dropped inside the box. Richarlison attempted a scrappy finish, and João Palhinha reacted quickest to turn it into the net.

1–0.

A messy goal, lacking in elegance — but decisive.

Even after taking the lead, Tottenham had to endure late pressure. Deep into stoppage time, in the 98th minute, Wolverhampton had one final chance from a dangerous free-kick, but Kinsky made a crucial save to secure the win.

In games like this, knowing how to suffer is part of winning.

A win that keeps hope alive

The final whistle brought relief — but not resolution.

Tottenham now sit on 34 points from 34 matches and remain in the relegation zone. West Ham, a direct rival, won late and stay outside the bottom three with 36 points.

The win was essential — and it came.

But at this stage of the season, it’s not just about picking up points. It’s about consistency.

For Spurs, every game is now a final.

And now, at least, they have a starting point.
